Exciting News

I am quite certain that Buddy the Elf and his friends are living in my attic. I hear little footsteps scampering about and I think Santa sent his helpers to check on me and make sure I am still on the nice list. Exciting right?!? This is how I picture it up there:
And of course Buddy is up there too!

Buddy is bending over because our attic is not very tall!

Yep. Not rats. Definitely Elves.
At least that is what I would tell my children if I had them ;)

Growing Pains

This was a rough week. We lost two patients in the span of 4 days. Both losses were hard, but one of them in particular. This little one was 3 1/2 years old and just a joy. She was so very dear to my heart. I not only loved her, but I love her family very dearly as well. I realized this week that gaining wisdom, perspective and growing up in life often hurts. It is hard to experience emotions so intensely, but I experience the sadness, the sorrow, the empathy for the families' losses because I loved intensely. For that I am eternally grateful. I had the special and sacred opportunity to care for these little souls during their short duration here. So many people did not get to know them, yet I did. I am truly blessed indeed.

Blankets

Today one of my little favorites was curled up with his ever-present blue blanket. When he is tired or anxious he sucks his thumb and with the other hand holds his blanket up to his nose. I find this extremely endearing and adorable. Maybe it is because I did the same thing as a kid. But with a tassle on my blanket. A specific tassle.
So... I told Matt that I did the same thing as a kid. His eyes got big and he said "Did you like you blanket stinky or clean?"
Me: "Stinky. Yep stinky."
Him: (Smiling) "Me too! Wanna smell?" (Holds his blanket up to me)
Me: "Thanks! Wow. Yep, that is stinky!"

I think we are friends for life. I love my job.
